Promoted since then, and someone got him c/o STL afterwards.

Maybe I give up too easily, but with promotions and no idea if the team fwd's the mail on, I doubt I see these again. And if that's the case, they're failures. I almost never see things if I don't get them the same day or a day after others do.

Well, I wish I knew that. It was the only thing I had to send. I've sent ICs to other guys - LaRoche and Gio Gonzalez to name two - that sent back cards signed instead. This was after I sent to Billingsley.

You are giving up to easily. Some guys carry around their mail all season and do it at the end. If the player was promoted more than 3 or 4 days after you sent it he could have it in his possession. And yes some teams forward their mail.

You're giving up way to easily on those guys you sent to and got promoted. I would never count something as a failure if I didn't get it back because who knows when you will get something back, could be 1 month, 6 months, a couple years, I've even seen some take 10+years to come back. Just because someone got something in your area and you didn't doesn't mean you won't get it either.

They were promoted 3-6 weeks after I sent my cards (drew, ellsbury, kottaras, reyes) ...... but I think most were promoted when they were on the road, does that matter?

Hal Greer, basketball HOF. Address in Litchfield, AZ. Came back in two months, marked, not the basketball player, ie that its Hal greer, just not that hal Greer.
My envelope was resealed, but if it was wrong guy why keep it two months, then mark wrong guy and RTS. At least I got my SASE back.

I got my two custom index cards back unsigned from Elliott Maddox today, along with a slip of paper that says Mr. Maddox charges $5 per signature. I'd consider sending him the money... except for one thing: it's been more than 4 years since I originally wrote to him, and I don't even know if I still have the address!
