Unhappy down the streatch we go in the MILB

Another season is only 2 weeks away from ending for most teams. . Let me say this... who has surprised/ dissipointed you this is season in the Milb this season? Just curious on what everyone's player reports are. Don't want it to be winter again and cold. (sigh)

I reminded my gf that I only have one more home series after today unless the Biscuits make the playoffs. Promised her I would have everything organized and out of sight for 2009 by Oct. Honestly, this is the time of the year were I question my sanity of collecting autographs and is there a way I can do it without it being a distraction to other areas of my life and there is not. I probably read a good 50 pages of baseball related material a day.....

Other then gas prices which made the pre-season trips a no go, I actually started to sit in the scout sections of stadiums that I did visit and try to learn what they are looking for..... I can safely say I can tell you why a player is not excuting correctly ( release point, footwork, inside out swing ) but I cant tell you why one player is projected to do better then another player even though they both failed in the same situation against the same pitcher. I am hoping one day a scout will notice my interest and say let me help you by you helping me.

Far as players,

Jordan Schafer had the most to gain this season and although we dont know everything, this was a wasted season for him and the Braves.

Desmond Jennings back and Colby Rasmus's groin injuries were let downs.

The team the D-Backs sent to Mobile was a letdown after last year.

I atleast have the Alabama / Auburn football season to pass me by and a couple of Saints game to attend to get me by to ST. Really hoping Pat White runs all over Tub's defense.

Of the players I've seen this season Dan Murphy has to be the most surprising to me. I came into the season expecting him to be a decent player, and then he went ahead and tore up the EL for most of the season and is now tearing it up in the bigs.

As for most disappointing it would have to be Jose Tabata. I heard all kinds of hype about him before I went to see him play, but after seeing him play 7-8 times I never saw any of the promise that scouts seem to see in him. He showed no exceptional tools and a bad attitude.

After seeing everyone in the Cal League this season, these players stood out to me:

San Jose - Home team
Pablo Sandoval - evolved into a beast, glad to see him in the majors
Tim Alderson - highly touted and lived up to it, been unstoppable in the second half
Matt Downs - big year offensively, played all over the infield, definitely see him getting to SF in a year or two
Rest of the starters - leading the league in ERA, lights out most of the year (English, Tanner, Snyder, Pucetas, even Maday) all having monster seasons.

Stockton
Chris Carter - tons of power, even outs go pretty far
Sean Doolittle - very good all around, power, avg.
Sam Demel - lights out
Andrew Carignan - lights out
Henry Rodriguez - hit 98 mph on a cold night to start the season and dominated, returned as a reliever recently and had control issues, plenty of promise
Trevor Cahill - breakout season, plenty of k's, looked great
Brett Anderson - saw him get shelled here a few times, didn't seem to have overpowering stuff, and when the hits fall in, he seems ordinary

Lancaster
Lars Anderson - great season, very good at the plate, couldn't get him out
Josh Reddick - blasted several home runs in a pitcher's park
Jon Still - takes control of the game from behind the plate, has power

Bakersfield
Chad Tracy - plenty of pop
Julio Borbon - great mix of everything, some pop, speed, defense, contact
Kasey Kiker - not overpowering, didn't see too much that got me excited
