Patty Mills - St. Mary's College

Went to the #23 St. Mary's versus USF game last night and got a few cool things signed afterwards. The Gaels designate about 3 games during the year as "Youth Days" where they, among other things, set up a table after the game and the whole team comes out to sign autographs. My five-year old loves it.

Got super-freshman Patty Mills and the other Aussies on the team to sign the article about them in the January 28, 2008 Sports Illustrated:

Also got Patty to sign a photo from the Oregon game. Asked him to add "37 points - freshman record" which he did. He dropped 37 on Oregon in only his fourth college game.

Lastly, got Patty to sign and personalize a photo I took of him with my son at a previous game.

I am a little dissapointed that the blue sharpie doesn't come out too well on the semi-dark backgrounds. Maybe I should have used silver on all 3. Still happy with them though.

GO GAELS!!!

Cool successes... the SI page came out pretty good. Going for them is very tempting about now, if I do I have to make sure nobody in town that I know sees me getting them or they'll probably beat my @$$.

Did you consider getting Eddie Sutton at that game too?

I did think about it but he was nowhere to be found after the game. I did get him on a card through the mail to USF's Athletic Department a few weeks ago so I wasn't that dissapointed.

I encourage you to get Patty Mills' autograph when the Gaels are up there in Spokane to play the Zags. Come to the dark side!

I figure I will go ahead and make this my 2008 IP success thread as well. Here goes.............

I was really happy to get Napoleon Kaufman today. He has lunch by himself at a local place in the same town that I work in almost every day. I was going through some old stuff over the weekend and came accross an unsigned 8x10 of him that I have had for years. I threw it in my car and figured I would approach him sometime, provided he wasn't in the middle of eating.

Sure enough, I met a friend there today and there he was. I asked him to sign and he was very gracious. I don't plan to bother him again but I am glad I got him.

Nice success!

How was Vida about signing at your son's game? He is pretty unpleasant about signing in AZ for the most part.

Agreed, but at least it got 3 WCC teams in for the first time! Hopefully all 3 can represent the conference well!

One thing that I should have mentioned is he was charging $20 per. I thought it was a bit awkward that he was a "special guest" due to it being the 50th Anniversary of the league my son is in and after the ceremonies they put him in the back of the snack shack and have him start charging people to sign. He was pretty friendly at least.

Rode home from Vegas last night with my favorite NBA player, Monta Ellis, and only had a crummy piece of stationary from the Palms for him to sign. Damn!

San Francisco Giants at Oakland A's
June 29, 2008

Huston Street 2/2
Tim Lincecum 2/2

Both players were signing multiples and I really wish I brought more. Saw one guy have a page of 8 cards and Lincecum signed them all. Still really happy to get both these guys!

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Oakland A's
July 11, 2008

Reggie Willits 2/2

The Angels definately upheld their reputation as one of the worst IP signing teams in the league tonight. The A's don't open the gates on weekdays until 1 1/2 hours before the game (lame) so, since the A's were done with BP by then I had to try for the Angels.

I was actually in a dream situation through - the attendants won't let graphers down to an ideal spot right by the dugout where the players have to walk from the dugout to the clubhouse unless you have a ticket in that section (which I did). Basically, it was me and a 10-year old kid geared up in Angels stuff sitting there all alone. Long story short, the entire team had to walk past us with no one else around and the only player to stop was Willits. I got a couple "laters" but mostly we were completey ignored or got dirty looks. I give Juan Rivera the award for the best dirty look - sent chills down my spine.

When the A's came back out I saw Daric Barton and Matt Murton sign a few on their way to warm up but the attendants had already cleared most of the area by the A's dugout by then.

I will definately pick better signing teams the next time I do an A's game IP!

Milwaukee Brewers at San Francisco Giants
July 19, 2008

Robb Nen 1/1

Today before the game the Giants contined their celebration of their 50th Anniversary season by inviting all their pitchers and catchers back for a special introduction before the game. We brought the whole family because today is my birthday so, at the last minute, I decided not to bring any of my autograph stuff except one ball because we were going to arrive less then one hour before the game.

Little did I know that all the Giants Legends would be occupying a club suite. I happened to have club level tickets for this game. I left my ball with the rest of my family when I took my son down to the first level to ride the Coke slide. I just happened to share an elevator with Gaylord Perry and his wife who were leaving early. Just the four of us and I had nothing for him to sign - wanted to bang my head against the wall! He was really nice though.

I had also happened to see one of my all-time favorite Giants, Rob Nenn, just outside the suite as well. After the slide episode I went back to out seats and grabbed my ball and headed back to the Giants Legends suite. I was able to pretty easily sneak inside. I got Nen on a ROMLB which I am really happy about. Guys like Dave Dravecky, Kirk Reuter, Atlee Hammaker and others were just hanging out in the room and I had nothing for them to sign. Kinda frustrating but at least I know the drill the next time the Giants have one of these things!
