Thanks Henry! Maybe we can hook up at AT&T when the Giants honor the outfielders. I think it is 8/9 versus the Dodgers.

Los Angeles Dodgers at San Francisco Giants
August 9, 2008

Today got off to a dissapointing start. It ended pretty well though. This was the final installment of the Giants 50th Anniversary celebration. For this game the Giants welcomed back outfielders from the past 50 years.

I got there about an hour before the game and started to walk a lap around the peremeter of the stadium. For the last event the players were introduced coming through the right field wall so I hoped to to catch them hanging out ready to enter. Instead, as I came around the centerfield area, I saw a roped off tent and Barry Bonds just outside of it, just starting to sign autographs for fans along a fenced off area. I raced over and came extremely close to getting him two or three times. He bounced around and signed for a while. There were only about 40-50 people hanging out there. After he stopped, he went back into the tent. He and Willie Mays were the only ones left in the tent along with some family and friends. I later figured out that this was becuase all the other former players were introduced from the dugout (and had already entered the stadium) and Bonds and Mays both made their appearence in the stadium through openings in the center and left field wall. Mays and Bonds were given rides on golf carts when they finally entered the stadium so we never really had a chance to get them again.

I knew the players would be at the Legends Suite after the festivities so that is where I headed. The big stars like Mays, Bonds and Cepeda have their own places to watch the game and Jack Clack was a no show which bummed me out but I did pretty well with some toughies that did show up...

Kevin Bass 3/3
Mike Felder 3/3
Dave Kingman 1/3, 1/1
Jeff Leonard 3/3
Darren Lewis 1/1
Candy Maldonado 1/1
Kevin Mitchell 1/2
Jim Wohlford 2/2
Terry Whitfield 1/1
Joel Youngblood 1/1

Total autographs:18 (but still stings a little that I couldn't land the big boy!)

Mary Lou Retton 2/2 at our corporate campus after speaking (still can't believe no one took me up on my offer of getting items signed for them)

Minnesota Twins at Oakland A's
August 28, 2008

Figured I would try a weekday game at Oakland. A's I expected, fan turnout was horrendous - I bet they only had about 2,000 in the stadium by first pitch. Did ok graphing though:

Twins:

Joe Mauer 1/2
Joe Nathan 1/2

A's:

Gio Gonzalez 1/1 (great guy)
Daric Barton 1/2
Frank Thomas 2/2 (literally got him minutes before first pitch - came over to sign for a young kid by the dugout and took care of the few of us that were nearby. he used someone's crummy black sharpie on mine but better than nothing!)

Justin Morneau was signing a bit but only balls that kids were throwing him over the dugout. Huston Street signed a bit also but had to leave for a team meeting before he got to everybody.

Total autographs:6 (I will try to get around to posting pictures tomorrow)
